21 May 2013: Friends of the Irish Environment have challenged today’s RPII’s view that no public consultation is required in Ireland over the proposed UK Hinckley C Nuclear Plant.

FIE Director Tony Lowes explained that ‘The Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context [Espoo] Convention requires that the opportunity provided to the public of potentially affected Parties is ‘equivalent to that provided to the public of the Party of origin’. Under the Convention, consultations with Ireland should have included the potential transboundary impact of the proposed activity and measures to reduce or eliminate this impact.”
