Friends of the Earth welcomes delay in the Climate Bill
Labour block Minister Hogan’s solo run on toothless Bill
12/2/2012: Friends of the Earth has welcomed the fact that the draft climate change Bill was not approved by Cabinet today, allowing more time for consideration of its provisions. Media reports yesterday indicated that Minister Hogan was pushing for the Government to adopt a draft Bill that had no targets and no independent advisory council to monitor progress.
Commenting, Friends of the Earth Director, Oisin Coghlan said:
“We welcome the fact that Labour held the line today against a climate Bill with no targets and no independent advisory council.”
“We hope now there will be a proper discussion at the highest political levels about the key elements of effective climate legislation. Minister Hogan must not be allowed to do another solo run.”
