Overview: Global Action Plan Ireland are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, hard-working and resourceful person that shows a positive attitude to their work and strong initiative to assist in the development and delivery of GAP’s youth environmental education programmes. The successful candidate will work closely with GAP’s Education Officer, assisting in youth educational programmes on topics such as biodiversity, ecology, climate change, sustainability and green living. The intern will gain practical experience in developing and delivering educational programmes, group facilitation, working with young people in formal and informal educational settings and planning and delivering community-based and nation-wide events. The intern will receive formal/informal training in the following: planning, development and implementation of new educational programmes and resources; working with community youth groups and primary and secondary school groups; communication and facilitation skills; event planning and management.
On completion the intern will have attained skills and experience in: effective time management and organisation; communications; effective planning, delivery and evaluation of youth programmes and events as part of a team.
The candidate will also gain valuable experience in working in the not-for-profit sector.

Brief job description:
The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of GAP’s youth environmental programmes. This will include:
Assisting with the daily running of GAP’s youth environmental education programmes
Assisting with the delivery/facilitation of GAP’s schools environmental education programmes in Ballymun
Developing educational resources and promotional materials to support the youth programmes
Developing educational content for GAP’s website
Keeping abreast of key environmental issues and conducting research as required
Other duties as they arise
Essential skills:
A background in environmental science, community development, education or related field
Knowledge of environmental issues and enthusiasm for the natural world
Interest in working with young people
Good interpersonal and communication skills
Good organizational skills
Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar
A proven ability to work alone and as part of a team
Desirable skills:
Experience in promotion of events
Experience in teaching
Terms & conditions
9 month placement in accordance with Job Bridge requirements
30 hours per week, Monday – Thursday
A degree of flexibility in working hours around evenings and weekends will be expected
