Environmentalists are seeking to have Coillte Teo and Bord na Mona included in the Freedom of Information Bill 2013 which is going through the Dail at the moment.

Currently, both bodies are listed as ‘Exempt Agencies’.

The Information Commissioner recently ruled that Bord na Mona came under the Access to Information on the Environment legislation.

In annulling a refusal by Bord na Mona to provide information to Friends of the Irish Environment, Emily O’Reilly ruled that Bord na Mona was under the control of the Government and that its statutory role in controlling bogs and others lands performed ‘public administrative functions under national law, including specific duties, activities, or services in relation to the environment.’
