BirdWatch Ireland seeks Sensitivity Mapping Project Officer

Birdwatch Ireland 200x150

BirdWatch Ireland carries out a range of policy & advocacy work focussed on birds, their habitats and wider biodiversity which involves engaging proactively with a range of sectors. We are seeking a suitably experienced person to join our team to progress the Sensitivity mapping project into Phase 3.

This position is to run from June to November 2014.

Climate change is an enormous threat to wildlife and developing renewable energy technologies such as wind power is an important part of the response required to mitigate against climate change. Sensitivity Mapping is a tool to provide support for enabling wind energy developers and regulators to foresee and address potential conflicts between ecological needs of birds and wind energy development. It is also a useful tool for county based or regional or national renewable energy strategies. Bird sensitivity mapping identifies areas in which there are particular bird sensitivities to development related to wind energy and associated infrastructure.

Closing Date: Midday (12 noon) on Monday May 26th 2014.
