GRIAN was established in Ireland in March 2001 by a small group of concerned individuals to provide a voluntary platform for public awareness of the threats posed by climate change, and to promote and facilitate action on alternatives and solutions.
Much of the early work has concentrated on high level advocacy work in close contact with policy makers in Ireland , the European Union and within the UN. This work is ongoing, continuous and capable of producing substantial results over time.
With increasing membership and volunteer support, GRIAN is now concentrating efforts on widening its support base, increasing visibility at local level, and on further developing the website as a free public education resource and directory.
GRIAN is a member of the Climate Action Network (CAN, www.climatenetwork.org ) an international coalition of NGO’s sharing the same aims and objectives.
