• To train individuals in the target group so that they can carry out a variety of actions so as to monitor and manage Irish biodiversity – including habitats and indicator species.
• To train individuals in the target group so that they can identify, collect and record biological data in relation to pond invertebrates, amphibians, garden birds, tree lichens and butterflies and to submit this to the national biodiversity data centre and other NGO surveys.
• To recruit a team of volunteers who can use the skills gained in two key projects being undertaken by IPCC on raised bog habitat and butterflies throughout the International Year of Biodiversity.
• To engage the interest of the public generally in biodiversity by reporting results of the training course and the follow on monitoring work of the volunteers to the media in three press releases, uploading materials to the IPCC facebook and Web site and the Notice Nature Web site, issuing a special edition of Action for Bogs for the Year of Biodiversity and producing a short film for use at Showcase 2010.
