A fun and informative booklet about biodiversity & ecosystems services in Ireland.

The booklet will foster understanding of and engagement with Ireland’s Biodiversity, its value and relevance to society, as well as some of its delights.  The messages and illustrations will be carefully designed to engage the public and those with no previous understanding of biodiversity and to inform about the Irish situation. It will depend on Irish examples to illustrate concepts such as ecosystems services and how these are very much part of our everyday lives.

The booklet will also address indicators (e.g. freshwater pearl mussel), and the need to integrate biodiversity considerations in many activities and sectors.  The booklet will inform without preaching, and will invite participation and engagement with this complex subject.

The booklet will be a key resource for International Year of Biodiversity, geared at the general public.  It will also be accessible to secondary students.

What we are aiming for is a combination of interest, positive action, a will to find out more, and a feeling of wanting to get involved.  The cartoons and illustrations will be amusing in places and help readers to remember some of the issues and concepts, as well as inviting them to read the booklet in the first instance.
