International Bog Day at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre

Celebrat

You are invited to join the Irish Peatland Conservation Council from 2pm-5pm on Sunday 25th July at the Bog of Allen Nature Centre, Lullymore, Co. Kildare to celebrate International Bog Day. This worldwide event is celebrated in 2010 alongside the Bog of Allen Nature Centre’s celebrations for the International Year of Biodiversity. Tadgh O’Corcora, IPCC’s Conservation Officer will introduce you to IPCC’s new peatland conservation action plan. This plan calls for a holistic approach to the management of Ireland’s remaining peatland resources with the overall aim of halting the loss of peatland biodiversity. Visitors are also invited to join IPCC on a guided walk of Lodge Bog an example of an intact raised bog close to the centre where you can see some of the ongoing conservation work being undertaken by IPCC staff and volunteers. For young visitors, a pond dipping session and froggy search will provide entertainment and the peatland museum and wildlife gardens will be open all day for visitors to browse at their leisure. All welcome, admission free, bring a picnic and for those visitors intending on going on the bog walk bring strong footwear.
