Aim:
To investigate a selection of caves for autumnal bat swarming
Objective 1
To survey caves for health and safety risk.
Objective 2
To survey caves for bat signs.
Objective 3
To monitor caves for bat activity by remote data loggers that may indicate bat swarming.
Objective 4
To harp trap bats at caves potentially identified as bat swarming sites to determine the species, sex, age and reproductive status of bats recorded at bat swarming sites.
Objective 5
To provide training and up-skilling of bat handling for licensed and vaccinated volunteers.
Objective 6
To provide evidence and data on bat swarming sites in north-west Ireland.
Objective 7
To supplement data collated to-date by the Centre of Irish Bat research (CIBR, UCD and Queen’s University).
