Minister Batt O’Keeffe will officially open Co. Corks first Master Composter Demonstration site in Quartertown Industrial Estate at 2pm on Saturday 18th September and all are invited.
The opening will also mark the graduation of thirty one Master Composter volunteers who are now available to present talks and host information stands at events around Co. Cork. The Master Composter initaitive is part of the EPA’s National Food Waste Prevention and Home Composting Programme.
All are welcome to attend and events on the day will include certificate presentation to the Master Composter volunteers at the Cope Foundation in Quartertown Industrial Estate, followed by the official opening of the Master Composter Demonstration site at the Mallow Community Organic Growers Group site by Minsiter Batt O’ Keeffe. For your information the Master Composters will be available throughout the afternoon providing short presentations on various aspects of composting including leaf mould, worm bins, turning systems, compost bins, how to use compost and mulch in your garden as well as giving you valuable techniques to reduce food waste in your home. Tim Casey an allotment holder at the site will give instructions on how to grow your own potatoes while Finbarr Sheehan will provide information on how to start an allotment project in your area. Special guest speakers on the day will include Alan Pitcher a bee keeper from the Secret Garden in Newmarket who will provide information on planting a bee friendly garden and bee keeping. The Secret Garden will also have a stand with goods for sale catering for all your composting and gardening needs. Charlie Wilkins the renowned gardening expert will also be on hand to answer all those troublesome gardening questions.
